The NGDC is a vizsla-only walking trial with 1-hour braces. A "walking" trial differs from horseback trials in that the handler is on foot. The braces are run for an entire hour, and the dogs are required to retrieve. The NGDC event is held annually and includes an additional stake, Open Puppy, also on foot. In the NGDC, the entrants must be 6 months of age or older and have placed first, second, third or fourth in any Gun Dog stake or hold a Master Hunter title. Open Puppy entrants must be at least 6 months of age, and no more than 15 months. All vizslas running in the National Gun Dog Championship and Open Puppy Stake must be free of any disqualifying faults as stated in the vizsla standard recognized by the American Kennel Club. The 2006 event was held in Mansfield, GA, about 50 miles east of Atlanta, and hosted by the Vizsla Club of Metro Atlanta, a new regional club. The NGDC started Monday, February 20th, and wrapped up on the 22nd. The weather was cool and drizzly with a few breaks of sunshine. The trial ran smoothly and in a timely manner, thanks to the diligence of the workers and the cooperation of the entrants.
