The NGDC is a vizsla-only walking trial with 1-hour braces. A "walking" trial differs from horseback trials in that the handler is on foot. The braces are run for an entire hour, and the dogs are required to retrieve. The NGDC event is held annually and includes an additional stake, Open Puppy, also on foot. In the NGDC, the entrants must be 6 months of age or older and have placed first, second, third or fourth in any Gun Dog stake or hold a Master Hunter title. Open Puppy entrants must be at least 6 months of age, and no more than 15 months. All vizslas running in the National Gun Dog Championship and Open Puppy Stake must be free of any disqualifying faults as stated in the vizsla standard recognized by the American Kennel Club.
