About the VCA

The Vizsla Club of America

The Vizsla Club of America, organized originally in the early 1950's as the Magyar Vizsla Club, received its present name in order to facilitate breed recognition by the AKC. The organization has published a national newsletter since 1953 called The Vizsla News

Presently, the VCA sponsors an annual national event which rotates around the country each year. During this event, the VCA sponsors a national field championship stake, a national amateur field championship stake, a national specialty show, national obedience and rally competitions, and a national agility trial.  These competitions distinguish the VCA as one of the few national parent breed clubs to offer combined events for their membership.

The objectives and purpose of the Vizsla Club of America, as defined in their current constitution and by-laws are as follows:
> To encourage and promote quality in the breeding of purebred vizslas and to do all possible to bring their natural qualities to perfection

> To encourage the organization of independent regional vizsla clubs in those localities where there are sufficient fanciers of the breed to meet the requirements of The American Kennel Club (the AKC

> To urge VCA members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by The American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which the vizsla shall be judged

> To conduct such dog-related events as the VCA deems necessary, including but not limited to sanctioned matches and specialty shows; field trials; hunting tests; obedience, rally and agility trials, and such other events as may be sanctioned by the American Kennel Club, under the rules of the American Kennel Club.
