Therapy dogs are dogs that bring affection and comfort to people in a variety of ways. Therapy dogs work in hospitals, nursing homes, in retirement communities, and visiting the homebound; visiting people, showing their tricks, simply being a warm furry body to pet, to talk to.

There are Reading dog groups throughout the country where dogs work with children in libraries and schools giving them confidence in reading. Many hospitals utilize specially trained Therapy dogs to work with people in rehabilitation areas, encouraging those recovering from injuries to reach, throw, walk.

Therapy dog work is not for every dog, but if your dog enjoys it, idling Therapy dog work is a very rewarding gift to others.

There is a difference between a Therapy dog and a Service dog, and the rights of a Service Dog to go into stores, restaurants do not extend to Therapy dogs.
