In July 2024, the VCA Board approved the creation of a Legacy Hall of Fame to identify and celebrate dogs who, especially with the benefit of a farther hindsight, were significant contributors to the breed in this country.

There are numerous reasons why these dogs may have not been nominated for our existing Hall of Fame, including the death of their human companions, the shift in AKC recording-keeping from paper to digital, the evolving nature of the VCA’s own Hall of Fame requirements, or perhaps that they played the understated role of ‘blue hen,’ a dam who threw better than they themselves were and produced well with a variety of stud dogs.

Dogs will be brought forward for consideration either by open nomination from the membership or from within the five members of the Legacy Committee – and then after research and recommendation by the committee, taken to the Board for their ratification. If ratified, the successful candidates will be named to our Hall of Fame as Legacy inductees.

To that end, the Legacy Hall of Fame Committee comprises Andrew Campbell (chair), Michel Berner, Julia Bonar, Linda Kelly, and Kathy Rust – a committee with over 200 years of collective experience in the breed. Members are encouraged to contact any of the committee members for more information or to offer nominations.
